Electric Motors Voltage and Balance

When we plan to install an electric motor for our application, the one of  important parameter that we MUST verify is about VOLTAGE.Ensure the voltage is balance between phase to phase.

Motor voltages should be kept as close to the nameplate value as possible, with a maximum deviation of 5 %. Normally motors are designed to operate within 10% of nameplate voltage.

What happen if your voltage variations is large than nameplate voltage? The answer is if  voltage variations larger than motor nameplate voltage,it’s can have several damage effects to the motor on torque, slip, current, efficiency, power factor, temperature, and service life. read more

Troubleshooting Electric Motors – Part 2

This post is a continue from the troubleshooting electric motors part 1.As I mentioned on my last post, I will share information and guideline about electric motors breakdown.

Once it has determined that the motor is at fault, you can proceed to locate the problem with the motor. A troubleshooting guide outlines a comprehensive variety of motor problems.

Generally the categories are arranged according to symptoms, offering brief suggestions concerning what to look for when investigating motor failures and often providing advice on how to correct the problem once it has been identified. read more

Troubleshooting Electric Motors – Part 1

Breakdown causes by electric motor failures always happen in our operation due to of 2 major factors. It is Mechanical component defect and Electrical circuit failure.

Typical instruments used for troubleshooting motor operation problems include a Multimeter, Clamp-on Meter,Insulation Resistance Meter, and Infrared Thermometer. These instruments are used to measure voltage, current, resistance, insulation resistance, and temperature.

But when we involve for electrical testing,it have a risk and can lead to injury or electrical shock. We must aware during handling electric motor and to reduce the risk we need to follow safety procedure to avoid any incident by certain to read more

Electric Motor Maintenance

As we know, motors is a common used for rotating equipment to make domestic and industrial operation more easier. In general, electric motor is reliable machine with minor maintenance require. But to ensure electric motors have a more life span and service life,we must perform periodical inspection and service and schedule it with proper arrangement.

With periodical inspection and services, we can reduce motor failure and minimize downtime for operation.Record all data and finding during inspection for our referral and also can perform diagnostic report.Normally periodical inspection for motor should be such as motor base condition, shaft alignment, bearing condition, motor temperature and belt tension or coupling position. read more

Grounding and Bonding

Earthing system is one of the important items for electrical installation used in domestic or industrial sector. This is for electrical safety purpose when current leakage happen.

With proper grounding system, people are protected from electrical shock and also to ensure residual current devices (RCD) or Ground Fault device (GFCI) activate properly.

Intentional grounding is required for the safe operation of electrical systems and equipment. Unintentional or accidental grounding is considered a fault in electrical wiring systems or circuits. read more

How to setting the timer for star delta starter?

How many second we need to setting for changeover timer from STAR to DELTA sequence for Star Delta Starter? This question is very popular among electrician around the world when handling the Star Delta Starter for their application.

From my experience, honestly,it quite difficult to get the accurate times for star delta changeover. But we can get the approximate times with several monitoring technique and measuring equipment to decide the best setting for change over timer of Star Delta Starter. From this post,i would like to share some information and basic technique how to get the approximate times for Star Delta Starter change over timer.I hope from this post,it’s can give some ideas or clear view how to setting the times for Star Delta Starter change over timer.

FACOM VDE screwdriver set APVE.J6PB

VDE or Insulated screwdriver is a common tool and should be in electrical tools box.If you not familiar with VDE or insulated tools, please read on my last post about description of VDE tools and application.I describe detail about it.

For this post,i want to share my review about the new VDE or insulated Screwdriver Set from FACOM.I bought this VDE Screwdriver Set on last month with price around $70.I’ve choose the screwdriver set from model APVE.J6PB.

Every time before i start my electrical routine job or maintenance task, i make sure all my tools in good condition and all insulated condition is perfect without any damage or crack. This routine check is important to ensure we perform with safe tools and can avoid any accident or electrical shock. read more
